Instagram Doubles Down: Users Can Now Share Up to 20 Photos and Videos in a Single Post

The move is seen as a response to growing user demand for more expressive and comprehensive content sharing options.

In a significant update to its platform, Instagram has increased the number of photos and videos users can share in a single carousel post from 10 to 20. This new feature is now available to all users globally, including those in India. The move is seen as a response to growing user demand for more expressive and comprehensive content sharing options.

The update was announced with a nod to the end-of-summer tradition of sharing “photo dumps,” allowing users to showcase a larger array of memories and moments from their summer. Instagram’s statement highlights that this expansion aims to offer users a more flexible and enjoyable way to connect with their followers.

The carousel post feature, which allows users to swipe through multiple images or videos in a single post, was first introduced in 2017. Since then, Instagram has continuously enhanced this feature, including a recent addition that enables users to add music to their carousel posts, further enriching the storytelling experience.

In addition to this update, Instagram is shifting its focus on performance metrics. The platform will now standardize "views" as the primary metric across various content formats, including Reels, Stories, and photos. This change is intended to simplify the way users track and understand the performance of their content, according to Instagram Chief Adam Mosseri. Previously, different metrics were used for different types of posts, but this new approach aims to provide a more unified and transparent measure of engagement.

These updates reflect Instagram’s ongoing efforts to enhance user experience and content interaction on the platform, offering more tools and insights for both casual users and content creators alike.
