Meta Unveils Orion: At the Meta Connect 2024 event, Meta introduced its first true augmented reality (AR) glasses, named Orion. Unlike Meta's previous smart glasses, Orion brings advanced AR features that blend digital elements with the real world. These glasses come equipped with a range of sensors, spatial mapping technology, and a transparent display, allowing digital content to be seamlessly overlaid onto the physical environment.

Meta describes Orion as a major step forward in spatial computing and the metaverse. The glasses offer an immersive AR experience, enabling users to interact with their surroundings and virtual objects in a hands-free way.

One of the standout features is the ability to project 2D and 3D holographic content within the user’s physical space. Powered by AI, the system understands the environment and anticipates user needs for a more intuitive experience. According to Meta, Orion is lightweight and adaptable for both indoor and outdoor use, enabling users to connect face-to-face, even from afar.

Orion’s interface combines voice commands, eye-tracking, and hand gestures for a more natural interaction, allowing users to remain engaged with their surroundings. While these AR glasses aren't yet available for purchase, Meta is optimistic about their potential to revolutionize the way we connect and interact with the world.
