YouTube Tests AI Feature to Remix Licensed Songs for Shorts

YouTube is testing an AI feature that lets creators remix licensed songs for Shorts by choosing mood or genre. Original tracks will be credited, and users can explore similar remixed content. Songs from artists like Charlie Puth and Demi Lovato have been part of the initial rollout.

YouTube is experimentally applying the new feature called mixing licensed songs for Shorts, introducing a prompt along with the elements of mood or genre that would be used to create a "restyled" version of the song.

In this sense, this new feature continues upon the work done earlier by YouTube Dream Track AI tool, which was up for a limited number of creators. With Dream Track, creators can compose 30-second song remixes specifically dedicated to use in Shorts.

YouTube explained that the song will be credited in the remixed short, with a label noting that it was created by AI. The individual clicks on an icon to get more Shorts with their own AI-generated remixes of the same song.

The service said that the customized tracks will offer the "true core of the original song's vocals and lyrics." However it has not clarified the kinds of specific songs that will benefit from this feature.

Dream Track had been launched with songs by artists like Charlie Puth, Charli XCX, Demi Lovato, and John Legend, helping creators add their songs to Shorts.
