AAIB Says Final Report on Air India Ahmedabad Crash Expected by October

The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has said that the final report into the Air India Ahmedabad plane crash is expected to be released by October.

The accident happened on June 12, 2025, when Air India Flight AI171, a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, took off from Ahmedabad for London Gatwick. Soon after takeoff, the aircraft lost height and crashed into a residential area near the airport.

Out of the 242 people on board, only one passenger survived. The crash also caused deaths and injuries on the ground after the aircraft hit nearby buildings, making it one of the worst aviation disasters in India's history.

Investigation Almost Complete

Soon after the accident, the AAIB began a detailed investigation to understand exactly what went wrong. Teams collected debris from the crash site, examined the aircraft, and recovered the flight data recorder and cockpit voice recorder to help piece together the final moments of the flight.

Officials have now said that the investigation is nearing completion and the final report is likely to be ready by October.

Experts Studying Every Detail

Investigators are reviewing all available evidence, including technical data from the aircraft, conversations between the pilots in the cockpit, maintenance records, and the aircraft's operating systems. Experts from other countries and representatives of the aircraft manufacturer have also assisted in parts of the investigation.

The final report is expected to explain how the accident happened and identify the factors that led to the crash.

Report May Lead to Better Safety Measures

Apart from explaining the cause of the accident, the report is also expected to suggest steps that could improve aviation safety in the future. These recommendations may help airlines, aircraft manufacturers, and aviation authorities strengthen safety procedures and reduce the chances of similar incidents.

Families of the victims have been waiting for clear answers since the tragedy. The AAIB has said it will publish the report only after completing a thorough investigation and carefully reviewing all the evidence.
