Karnataka High Court Grants Interim Relief to Former CM BS Yediyurappa in POCSO Case

The single bench has postponed further hearings to September 5 while maintaining the order that prevents his arrest.

Bengaluru, August 30 – The Karnataka High Court has extended interim relief to former Chief Minister and senior BJP leader BS Yediyurappa in connection with a POCSO case involving allegations of sexual misconduct with a minor girl. The single bench has postponed further hearings to September 5 while maintaining the order that prevents his arrest.

The case against Yediyurappa stems from accusations that he inappropriately interacted with a minor girl in a past incident, with charges filed against him in June. Senior advocate C.V. Nagesh, representing Yediyurappa, challenged the accusations, calling for the charges to be addressed in court. The Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) Ashok Naik, representing the CID, requested additional time to submit supplementary chargesheets against Yediyurappa, leading the court to defer the hearing.

Nagesh, asserting the former CM’s innocence, argued that the ministers accusing Yediyurappa of wrongdoing are consistently using the POCSO Act to malign his reputation. He further challenged the prosecution to proceed with the arguments, stating that if there is any truth in the allegations, Yediyurappa would face the consequences.

The High Court’s decision to continue the interim order against Yediyurappa’s arrest has provided him with temporary relief as the legal battle continues. The case will now be heard on September 5, where further developments are anticipated.

This ongoing case has attracted significant attention due to the serious nature of the allegations and Yediyurappa’s prominent political position. The extension of interim relief marks another chapter in this high-profile legal saga.
