Late Anchor Aparna Vastare's Voice to Continue on Namma Metro's New Routes
BENGALURU, Sept. 11 — The voice of renowned Kannada anchor Aparna Vastare, who passed away two months ago from lung cancer, will continue to echo through Bengaluru’s metro system. The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has announced that Vastare’s iconic “Attention, please” announcements will be featured on two new metro lines set to open soon.
Aparna Vastare, celebrated for her contribution to Kannada media, provided voiceovers for Namma Metro even while battling cancer. Her voice has been a familiar presence on the metro’s Green and Purple Lines, and her legacy will now extend to the upcoming routes. The new lines, which include the Nagasandra to Madavara stretch on the Green Line and the RV Road to Bommasandra section on the Yellow Line, will feature her recordings.
Vastare passed away on July 11, but she recorded her voiceovers for the metro in April and May. Despite her health challenges, her dedication to her work was evident. BMRCL officials have confirmed that her voice will be preserved on the existing Green and Purple Lines, and efforts are underway to integrate her recordings into the new lines as well.
The decision to keep Vastare’s voice in the metro system reflects her enduring impact on the city’s public transport. The Green Line’s stations from Nagasandra to Silk Institute, and the Purple Line’s stations from Whitefield to Challeghat, will feature her voice, ensuring that her legacy continues to guide and inform commuters.
While BMRCL initially faced challenges in extending her voice to the new routes, the technical team successfully recorded her voice and is now preparing to implement it. The use of AI technology to preserve Vastare’s voice has been suggested by Kannada speakers as a way to maintain her presence on the metro.
