Opposition Leader Accuses Congress Government of 'Theater' Over Hindu Rituals

In a recent tweet, Ashok lambasted Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Minister Chaluvadi Narayanaswamy, questioning the need for repeated delegations to study the Ganga Aarti for implementation in Kaveri.

BENGALURU — Opposition leader R. Ashok has criticized the Congress government for what he describes as a sudden and insincere interest in Hindu rituals, particularly in relation to the Kaveri river. In a recent tweet, Ashok lambasted Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Minister Chaluvadi Narayanaswamy, questioning the need for repeated delegations to study the Ganga Aarti for implementation in Kaveri.

Ashok pointed out that senior officials from the Kaveri Development Authority had already conducted a three-day study in Haridwar and Kashi, raising concerns about the government’s motives for sending another team. “If a team is needed again, what was the purpose of the previous visit? Were the ministers simply having fun at government expense?” he questioned.

He further alleged that the Congress government has historically shown disregard for Hindu sentiments, referencing past incidents involving police action against Hindu activists and the handling of religious processions.

In his remarks, Ashok urged Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar to prioritize law and order over ceremonial displays. “If you truly cared about the nation and religion, why not take action against those who chanted anti-India slogans or caused disturbances during Ganesh immersion?” he asked.

The government has initiated efforts to replicate the Ganga Aarti in Kaveri, with a delegation, including Narayanaswamy and various lawmakers, previously visiting Kashi to study the ritual. Now, another delegation is set to follow, prompting further scrutiny from the opposition.
