Chennai Weather Update: Rising Temperatures Expected After a Pleasant Spell
After enjoying three consecutive days of pleasant weather, Chennai and its suburbs are likely to experience a slight increase in day temperatures. However, the weather is not expected to become excessively hot. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), day temperatures are forecasted to rise gradually from 32°C to 33-34°C over the next two days in the city and surrounding areas. This remains slightly below the average day temperature for July, which is 35.3°C.
Despite the predicted temperature rise, the IMD also forecasts light to moderate rainfall over the next two days. Weather bloggers, however, suggest that the city might experience largely dry conditions.
On the third consecutive day of cooler weather, temperatures recorded at Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam observatories were 32.3°C and 31.9°C respectively, which is approximately 3.1°C and 3.7°C below normal. Meteorologists attribute this cloudy weather to a trough, an elongated area of relatively low pressure, associated with a low-pressure system that is causing rainfall in central parts of India.
"For the next 48 hours, the city and the suburbs can expect light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in some areas. Maximum temperatures are likely to be around 33-34°C, while minimum temperatures may range between 26-27°C. Skies will be partly cloudy," stated an IMD bulletin.
Experts note that with the monsoon being active along the west coast, Chennai may see a break from thunderstorms for the next week. "Apart from some occasional drizzles, there won’t be any major thunderstorm activity in the city and interior districts," commented weather blogger Pradeep John.
As residents brace for slightly warmer days ahead, the combination of intermittent rainfall and moderate temperatures is expected to provide a relatively comfortable weather experience in Chennai.
