Delhi Riots Accused Shahrukh Pathan Denied Bail by High Court
The Delhi High Court has denied bail to Shahrukh Pathan, a key accused in the 2020 North-East Delhi riots. Pathan, who was captured on camera pointing a gun at Head Constable Deepak Dahiya during the riots, filed a petition for bail, but the court refused to grant him relief.
Charges and Allegations Against Pathan
Shahrukh Pathan is facing multiple charges, including rioting, promoting enmity between different groups, and unlawful assembly. He is also accused of attempting to murder Rohit Shukla and remains incarcerated in Tihar Jail. The incident involving Pathan’s act of brandishing a pistol at a police officer became one of the most widely shared images of the violence, further intensifying his case.
The 2020 Delhi Riots
The riots erupted in February 2020, following protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). The clashes between supporters and opponents of the CAA in North-East Delhi led to extensive violence, resulting in at least 53 deaths. Pathan’s actions during the riots have made him a prominent figure in the legal proceedings that followed.
