ED Probe at AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan's Home: Arrest Allegations and Political Controversy
New Delhi: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) visited the home of AAP leader Amanatullah Khan today as part of their investigation into a money laundering case. This case involves alleged irregularities in appointments within the Delhi Waqf Board and the leasing of its properties.
Amanatullah Khan's Statement on Social Media
Amanatullah Khan, the AAP MLA from Okhla, released a video statement on X (formerly Twitter), where he claimed that the ED team plans to arrest him under the guise of conducting a search. In the video, he mentioned, "The ED team has come to arrest me under the pretext of a search. My mother-in-law, who is battling cancer, underwent surgery just four days ago, and she is currently at my home. I had already informed the ED about this situation."
Khan further accused the agency of continuous harassment, stating, "For the past two years, they have been harassing me by filing false cases and creating unnecessary problems. Their goal is to weaken our party. I urge the people of Okhla to pray for me and reassure them that we will continue our work despite these challenges. We are not afraid."
Visuals from Khan's Residence
Footage from the scene shows an elderly woman, presumably Khan's mother-in-law, lying on a bed while Khan interacts with an ED official through a mesh door. Khan is heard requesting, "I need four weeks' time; my mother-in-law just had surgery." The ED official responded, "Why do you think we are here to arrest you?" Khan replied, "Why else have you come?" His wife added, "What is there to search in a three-room house? Why do you have to turn our home upside down every time?"
Khan's wife also expressed concern about the impact of the search on her ailing mother, stating, "She has cancer and has just undergone surgery. If anything happens to her, I will take legal action. She is too weak to even stand."
AAP Leaders Criticize BJP Government
Top AAP leaders Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh have criticized the BJP-led central government, accusing it of targeting those who speak out against the ruling party. Manish Sisodia, the former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister, stated, "This is all the ED does now—silence every voice raised against the BJP and jail those who refuse to break."
Sanjay Singh, an AAP MP who was also arrested earlier in a money laundering case, questioned the legitimacy of the probe against Khan, calling it a "comedy." He added that the CBI had informed a court that no financial crime was committed in this matter, and Khan had already been arrested and released by the court, which found no evidence of corruption.
BJP's Response
BJP leader and Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly, Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, responded by labeling Khan as a "notorious, corrupt, and anti-social element." He further criticized the AAP, stating, "If you are glorifying hooliganism and corruption like this, it reflects the deceptive politics of Arvind Kejriwal."
