Tragic Incident in Gurugram: 30-Year-Old Software Engineer Jumps from 7th Floor After Domestic Abuse

In a heartbreaking incident in Gurugram, a 30-year-old software engineer named Kirti took her own life by jumping from the seventh floor of her apartment. Kirti lived in the upscale Ansar Heights society in Sector 92 and was reportedly suffering from domestic abuse at the hands of her husband. Following this tragic event, a case has been filed against her husband, Yogendra, and his family members for dowry harassment and incitement to suicide.

Background of the Incident

Kirti, who worked for a leading IT company, Qualitest, in Noida, married Yogendra, a mechanical engineer, in 2018. The couple had recently moved into their rented flat in Ansar Heights just two weeks prior to the incident. According to police reports, the couple originally hailed from Mathura.

The incident occurred around 1 PM on Monday, when Kirti allegedly jumped from her flat. Immediate medical assistance was sought, and she was rushed to RV Hospital, where she was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Allegations of Dowry Demands

Kirti's father, Jagdish Singh, a retired army officer, has lodged a formal complaint against his son-in-law and in-laws, claiming they had been demanding dowry. He stated that during the wedding, he gifted the couple a Baleno car, jewelry, and household items. However, six months into the marriage, the demands for more dowry began to surface.

In a troubling phone call on September 21, Kirti informed her father that Yogendra had physically assaulted her, spurred on by his parents and sister, over dowry and their inability to conceive a child. Following this revelation, Jagdish approached the police, leading to the registration of a case under IPC Sections 3(5) (conspiracy) and 80 (dowry death).

Ongoing Investigation

As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the case. Police are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding Kirti's death and the allegations made by her family. This tragic event has raised serious concerns about domestic violence and the impact of dowry practices on women's lives in India.

Call for Change

The death of Kirti highlights the urgent need for society to address issues related to domestic abuse and dowry. Advocacy for stronger protective measures and support systems for women facing similar situations is crucial. As the investigation unfolds, many are calling for justice for Kirti and an end to the oppressive dowry system that continues to plague many families.
