Kanpur News Today: IIT-JEE Aspirant Found Dead in Hostel Bathroom

In a tragic incident reported on the night of December 1, 2024, a student preparing for the IIT-JEE exam was found dead in the bathroom of his hostel in Kakadev, Kanpur. The deceased, identified as 19-year-old Utkarsh Kumar Gupta, was a resident of the PG accommodation at 117-L/252, Navin Nagar, Kakadev, Kanpur, where he had been living while attending PW Institute for his IIT-JEE preparations.

The incident surfaced at around 9:45 PM when the police authorities received a call about the death in the hostel. As per the police, Utkarsh was found dead in the bathroom. The cause of his death remains unknown, and he was said to have died in unexplained circumstances. His family living in Ayodhya was immediately contacted. The field unit was promptly informed, and the situation was immediately communicated to senior officers.

The local police officials, in turn, have arrived at the incident place to investigate the circumstances which led to the death of the young student. Now, the police have launched the process of a post-mortem examination and other official formalities, such as the panchayat nama, or inquest report, are also completed.

Utkarsh Kumar Gupta is a native of Ayodhya who had gone to Kanpur with dreams and aspirations of getting admitted into the Indian Institutes of Technology. He had been diligently preparing for the IIT-JEE exam at PW Institute, a coaching center that provides intensive training to students who aspire to do engineering from India's best technical institutions.

The cause of death is still unknown and police are waiting for the post-mortem report whether it was a natural death or an accident or any other cause. Meanwhile, the family members of Utkarsh, who have all been shocked and bereaved, are in shock.

Local authorities have assured that a thorough investigation is being done to ascertain the exact cause of death. The police are also investigating any negligence or foul play that might have occurred within the hostel, though nothing has been proved at this stage.
