MCD Orders Action Against Illegal Bangladeshi Immigrants in Delhi

 

The MCD, Delhi, has acted sharply against illegal Bangladeshi immigrants. Recently, the corporation ordered officials to identify and delete such individuals from school records, public spaces, and government records. This decision has been taken amidst rising apprehensions over illegal immigration in view of the forthcoming Delhi Assembly elections.

Directives by MCD to Schools

MCD has issued instructions to all its schools to carefully verify admissions and identify illegal Bangladeshi students. The education department has been directed to run verification campaigns for students already enrolled in MCD schools. Authorities have been asked to ensure that no illegal Bangladeshi immigrant gets admission without proper documentation.

Focus on Birth Certificate Verification

The MCD's public health department has been asked to not issue birth certificates to illegal Bangladeshi immigrants. It has also been given a proper verification campaign which would highlight cases where it had previously issued birth certificates to those individuals who were undocumented at that time. The department has been sought to present a detailed report on the action taken up by 31 December 2024.

Preventive Measures by MCD

During a meeting held under the chairmanship of MCD Deputy Commissioner (HQ) B.P. Bhardwaj, the following measures were called for: Strict verification drives in schools.

Removal of the encroachment done by the illegal Bangladeshis
Issuing instructions not to issue birth registrations to these undocumented immigrants. The MCD has issued instructions to all departments to undertake prompt actions and submit reports within time.

The issue of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants is fast becoming a significant political debate ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections. The recent actions of MCD are seen as part of broader measures to address this concern. Authorities will continue strict monitoring and enforcement in the coming months.
