Amul, a name well-known in every household, has once again made India proud by achieving global recognition. The Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which sells dairy products under the Amul brand, announced that its business grew by 8% in the financial year 2023-24, reaching a total of ₹59,445 crore.

According to GCMMF, better sales have led to a significant growth in their business, with the company achieving new milestones this year.

Impressive Business Growth

During its 50th annual general meeting, GCMMF shared that in the financial year 2023-24, the company’s turnover increased by 8% to ₹59,445 crore (around 7 billion USD). The total turnover of the Amul brand group reached ₹80,000 crore (about 10 billion USD), up from ₹72,000 crore (9 billion USD) in the previous year.

Amul was given the title of the world’s strongest food brand by Brand Finance, a leading brand consulting firm based in the UK. This is a significant achievement for the brand and for India.

What Makes Amul Special

GCMMF is the world’s largest farmer-owned dairy cooperative, with 3.6 million farmers from 18,600 villages in Gujarat. Every day, they purchase around 30 million liters of milk. GCMMF Chairman, Shamalbhai Patel, proudly stated that Amul has emerged as the strongest food brand during its golden jubilee year.

The Journey of Amul

Amul began its journey as a cooperative society in Gujarat on December 14, 1946, with just 250 liters of milk. Today, it handles more than 30 million liters of milk each day, providing jobs to millions. Dr. Verghese Kurien, known as India’s “Milkman,” was the visionary behind Amul. He was the first person in the world to make milk powder from buffalo milk, changing the dairy industry forever.
