Bank Holiday Today: Will Banks Remain Open or Closed on Raksha Bandhan 2024? Know the Status in Your State

Raksha Bandhan, one of the most cherished festivals in India, will be celebrated this year on Monday, August 19. Along with Raksha Bandhan, the day also marks Jhulan Purnima and the birth anniversary of Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur. Due to these occasions, banks in several states across the country will remain closed. If you have banking needs, it is advisable to plan ahead, as many banks will not be operational on this day.

 

According to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), the following states will observe a bank holiday on Raksha Bandhan under the Negotiable Instruments Act: Tripura (Agartala), Gujarat (Ahmedabad), Madhya Pradesh (Bhopal), Odisha (Bhubaneswar), Uttarakhand (Dehradun), Rajasthan (Jaipur), Uttar Pradesh (Kanpur, Lucknow), and Himachal Pradesh (Shimla). It is important to note that in these regions, all banking services that require visiting a bank branch will be unavailable.

In addition to Raksha Bandhan, banks in most states will also be closed on August 20, Tuesday, for Sri Narayana Guru Jayanti and on August 26, Monday, for Janmashtami (Shravan Vad-8)/Krishna Janmashtami. Additionally, August 24, being the fourth Saturday of the month, will also be a bank holiday.

On August 26, banks in most states will observe a holiday, including Gujarat (Ahmedabad), Madhya Pradesh (Bhopal), Odisha (Bhubaneswar), Chandigarh, Tamil Nadu (Chennai), Uttarakhand (Dehradun), Sikkim (Gangtok), Andhra Pradesh and Telangana (Hyderabad), Rajasthan (Jaipur), Jammu, Uttar Pradesh (Kanpur, Lucknow), West Bengal (Kolkata), Bihar (Patna), Chhattisgarh (Raipur), Jharkhand (Ranchi), Meghalaya (Shillong), Himachal Pradesh (Shimla), and Kashmir (Srinagar).

Online Banking Services Unaffected by Bank Holidays

While bank branches will be closed during these holidays, online banking services will remain unaffected and accessible 24x7. Customers can still carry out transactions such as fund transfers, bill payments, balance checks, mini statements, fixed deposits, mutual fund investments, and even lodge complaints through online platforms.

Given the convenience of online banking, it's advisable to use these services if you need to conduct any banking transactions on holidays.
