EPFO Adds 14.63 Lakh New Members in November 2024, Marking Significant Growth
The Employees' Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has witnessed substantial growth in its membership numbers. In November 2024, the organization added 14.63 lakh new members, which is a significant increase from the 13.41 lakh new members added in October 2024. The EPFO's goal is to provide financial security to workers for their future, and the rise in membership reflects the growing awareness and adoption of this financial safety net.
16% Increase in New Members from October
According to the Ministry of Labour and Employment, the number of new members in November 2024 increased by 16.58% compared to October. Additionally, there was an 18.80% year-on-year increase in new members compared to November 2023. This surge is largely attributed to the growing job opportunities, increasing awareness about employee benefits, and EPFO's successful outreach programs.
Young Workforce Dominates New Membership Growth
The majority of new members belong to the 18-25 age group, with a total of 4.81 lakh new members in this category, making up nearly 55% of the total new memberships in November. The number of new members in this age group saw an increase of 9.56% from October 2024 and 13.99% from November 2023. The data suggests that a significant portion of the young workforce is joining the organized sector, with many of them being first-time job seekers.
Strong Employment Trends Driving Growth
EPFO continues to have more young people join it, as the trend continues with 5.86 lakh new members in the 18-25 age group and a 7.96% increase in net payroll data compared to October 2024. This means a large number of young individuals are accessing organized jobs and thus contributing to the growing membership in EPFO.
This growth in membership at the EPFO is a good indication of both the employment trends and the financial security of the workforce.
