Tata Motors Breaks Ground on New Vehicle Plant in Tamil Nadu - Read Here

In a significant move to boost local manufacturing, Tata Motors, India’s top producer of commercial and passenger vehicles, held a groundbreaking ceremony for its new world-class production facility at Panapakkam in Ranipet district, Tamil Nadu. This state-of-the-art plant will focus on producing next-generation vehicles for both Tata Motors and Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), catering to Indian and international markets.

The ceremony was attended by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin and N Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons and Tata Motors. Chief Minister Stalin praised Tata Motors for choosing Tamil Nadu, highlighting the company's strong historical ties with the state. He emphasized that this facility would further strengthen the state’s role as a leading hub for the automotive industry.

This advanced manufacturing plant will not only produce electric vehicles (EVs) and luxury cars but is also set to create over 5,000 employment opportunities—both direct and indirect. The plant will focus on building a skilled workforce from local communities and will aim to have a high percentage of women employees.

Speaking on the occasion, N Chandrasekaran said, “We are proud to establish Panapakkam as the home for our next-generation vehicles, including electric and luxury cars. Tamil Nadu is known for its skilled workforce and forward-looking policies, making it an ideal location for our new plant.”

Tata Motors plans to invest ₹9,000 crore in this new facility, which has been designed to produce over 250,000 vehicles annually. The plant will be built in phases, with production capacity expected to increase over the next five to seven years. Additionally, the plant will operate on 100% renewable energy, reflecting Tata Motors' commitment to sustainability.

With this new facility, Tata Motors continues to drive innovation in the Indian automotive industry while contributing to local job creation and sustainable manufacturing practices.
