BLACKPINK’s Rosé Unveils Untold Struggles: ‘I Survived the Lonely Trainee Years’

BLACKPINK’s Rosé opens up about her emotional struggles during her trainee years, revealing the loneliness she endured before becoming a global K-pop star.

On November 23, BLACKPINK’s Rosé shared her personal journey and emotions in an interview with The New York Times ahead of the release of her first solo studio album, Rosie, set to drop on December 6. Speaking with heartfelt honesty, Rosé revealed, “It feels like I’ve been waiting my entire life to release this album.” Despite her long-standing dream of creating her own music, she admitted, “I doubted myself a lot when I began this process last year.”
Born in New Zealand and raised in Australia, Rosé’s journey into the K-pop world began when she became a trainee at YG Entertainment in 2012 at the age of 15. However, the transition was far from easy. Reflecting on her early years, she described her experience as “deeply isolating” and “traumatic.”

“The loneliness I had to endure was something I didn’t fully understand,” she shared. Despite the challenges, Rosé survived the grueling trainee process and debuted with BLACKPINK in 2016.

Adapting to Fame and Navigating K-Pop Fan Culture

While Rosé found success with BLACKPINK, her journey into stardom came with its own challenges. “The first few years were personally very difficult,” she admitted. Over time, she learned to adapt and navigate the demanding K-pop industry. However, she highlighted the pressure of always maintaining a perfect image for fans, saying, “We were trained to present ourselves as the perfect girls, especially online.”
The interview took an emotional turn when Rosé discussed the harassment female artists often face online. “I consider myself a strong person, and I don’t want to react emotionally,” she said, “but when it happens, it makes me feel really, really bad.”

Her vulnerability shed light on the emotional toll that fame and public scrutiny can have, even on someone as resilient as Rosé.

Amid these challenges, Rosé found solace in songwriting. Describing it as a lifeline, she explained, “Songwriting came as a blessing when I really needed it. I would bring a big problem into the process, put it into a song, and then it would leave my heart.” This creative outlet has allowed her to process emotions and protect her mental well-being.

A New Chapter in Rosé’s Career

As Rosé prepares to release her solo album, her journey from a lonely trainee to an international superstar continues to inspire fans worldwide. Her story highlights the power of resilience and the importance of finding ways to heal and grow through personal struggles.
