Know How Priyanka Landed Krrish After an Unexpected Funeral Encounter

Priyanka Chopra is now a global superstar, known for her work in both Bollywood and Hollywood. Among her many successful films, her role in Krrish remains a fan favorite. But the story of how she landed this iconic role is quite surprising.

In a conversation with actor Anupam Kher on his talk show, Priyanka Chopra revealed an unexpected backstory about her casting in Krrish. The actress shared that director Rakesh Roshan, the father of Hrithik Roshan, first noticed her at a funeral. While that seems like an odd place for casting a leading lady, Rakesh Roshan later explained that it wasn’t her glamor that caught his eye. He found Priyanka to be naturally beautiful, even without any makeup. She was dressed in a simple white salwar-kurta, and her graceful presence left an impression on the filmmaker.

After seeing her at the funeral, Rakesh Roshan reached out to Priyanka and asked her for some footage from her film Aitraaz, which was being directed by Abbas-Mustan at the time. Though Aitraaz showcased Priyanka in a bold, negative role, very different from the gentle and positive characters typically seen in Roshan’s films, he was still intrigued by her performance.

Priyanka confessed that she was nervous about showing Aitraaz to Rakesh Roshan because of the nature of her character in the film. She even requested the directors of Aitraaz not to show him a particular scene where her character tries to seduce Akshay Kumar’s character. Ironically, it was exactly that scene which convinced Rakesh Roshan to cast her as Hrithik Roshan’s love interest in Krrish.

Looking back, Priyanka admitted that she was surprised by his decision, especially considering how drastically different her role in Aitraaz was from the one in Krrish. Despite her doubts, Priyanka’s chemistry with Hrithik became one of the highlights of the film. Now, fans eagerly await the next installment of the Krrish franchise, wondering who will take on the female lead role this time.
