K-Drama Nevertheless Finds a New Home in Japan: The Shape of Love Set for December Release

The popular Korean drama Nevertheless, starring Han So Hee and Song Kang, is getting a Japanese remake titled The Shape of Love. Starring Ryusei Yokohama and directed by Ryutaro Nakagawa, the highly anticipated series is set to premiere on December 9. The original drama, praised globally for its cinematography and storyline, captivated audiences with its fresh take on the complexities of modern relationships.

The Shape of Love is set in the scenic town of Kamakura, Japan, and aims to capture the beauty and heartbreak of falling in love. Just like Nevertheless, the story follows two young people who, despite knowing that love might lead to pain, can’t resist the pull of attraction. This Japanese remake will explore the nuanced emotions that arise when feelings take over, even against one’s better judgment.

The original Nevertheless, directed by Kim Ga Ram and Jang Ji Yeon, first aired on June 19, 2021. It followed the journey of an art student who falls for a playboy, navigating the bittersweet and sometimes painful sides of romance. Based on a webtoon by Jung Seo and adapted by Dating Class writer Jung Won, the series resonated with audiences worldwide, highlighting the challenges of love and self-discovery.

The Lead Cast: Han So Hee and Song Kang’s Growing Success

Han So Hee, who debuted in 2017 with Reunited Worlds, gained fame through roles in 100 Days My Prince, The World of the Married, and Gyeongseong Creature. Her performance in Nevertheless showcased her ability to portray vulnerability and strength in relationships, making her a relatable and admired figure in Korean drama. She will soon take on a lead role in the fantasy action drama Dotgabi, and her upcoming LGBTQ+ film Heavy Snow is also highly anticipated.

Song Kang, the male lead in Nevertheless, began his career in 2015 with Hello, Spring and quickly became a fan favorite. He has starred in numerous hit dramas like Love Alarm, Sweet Home, and My Demon. The actor enjoyed a successful 2023 with the release of Sweet Home 2 and My Demon, and he is currently completing his mandatory military service. Fans are eagerly awaiting his return in Sweet Home Season 3, set for release in July.
