Nayanthara vs Dhanush: SS Kumaran Accuses Duo of Misusing Film Title 'LIC'

Nayanthara faces backlash as SS Kumaran accuses her and Vignesh Shivan of misusing the title 'LIC' without permission amid her ongoing controversy with Dhanush.

Nayanthara, often hailed as the "Lady Superstar" of Tamil cinema, has recently found herself at the center of two heated controversies. One involves actor-filmmaker Dhanush, while the other features filmmaker SS Kumaran.

The controversy with Dhanush began when he reportedly sent a legal notice to Nayanthara for including footage from their film Naanum Rowdy Dhaan in her Netflix documentary without permission. The footage in question was just three seconds long but was used without the necessary approvals, triggering Dhanush's response.

Nayanthara openly called out Dhanush’s actions, sparking debates across the film industry and social media. While some fans defended her, others believed Dhanush’s stance highlighted the importance of respecting intellectual property rights.

SS Kumaran Slams Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan

Amid this ongoing dispute, filmmaker SS Kumaran accused Nayanthara and her husband, director Vignesh Shivan, of using the title LIC for their project without his consent.

In a strongly worded statement, Kumaran revealed that the title LIC had been registered under his production company, Suma Pictures, since 2015. Despite this, Vignesh Shivan allegedly proceeded to use the title without permission.

SS Kumaran expressed his disappointment and frustration in a public statement, saying, “You waited patiently for permission from someone powerful to use footage, but you trampled over me, a small producer. This has caused me emotional turmoil and has impacted my film.”

He also criticized the couple for allegedly setting a harmful precedent in the industry. “Every filmmaker invests time and money into their projects. If you want to use any content or titles, it’s essential to obtain proper permission. This trend of taking things without consent is troubling,” Kumaran wrote.

The controversies have sparked widespread reactions, with fans and industry insiders debating the ethical and legal implications. While some sympathize with Kumaran’s plight as a smaller producer, others have called for calm discussions rather than public confrontations.

A Call for Accountability

These incidents highlight ongoing issues of intellectual property and ethics in the film industry. As Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan continue to face backlash, many hope this serves as a reminder for stricter adherence to legal and ethical practices.

The controversy is expected to unfold further, keeping fans and industry watchers on edge.
