₹600 Crore Loan Default: Maverick Holdings Faces Allegations of Corruption, BBMP Land Auction Looms as Residents Fear Losing Homes – High Court Steps In to Resolve Crisis

However, a looming question remains: who will be responsible for repaying the massive debt?

on worsened when Maverick Holdings took a loan of ₹600 crore from a private financial firm, using the BBMP land as collateral. Allegations of corruption led to an investigation by the Lokayukta, which ultimately canceled the contract between BBMP and Maverick. However, a looming question remains: who will be responsible for repaying the massive debt?

Residents fear that the land could soon be auctioned off due to Maverick's default on the loan, putting them at risk of losing their already precarious living situation. Two years ago, Lokayukta Justice P. Vishwanath Shetty recommended that the government reclaim the property, but no action has been taken.

The matter has escalated to the High Court, where government representatives have assured that the BBMP property will be protected. Nonetheless, the unresolved issue of debt repayment continues to create anxiety among residents and stakeholders.

As the High Court hears the case, H.G. Prashanth, a local activist, has argued that immediate action is necessary to reclaim the land based on the Lokayukta’s findings. He has highlighted the need for the BBMP to prioritize the construction of the remaining 1,398 homes to fulfill their original commitment to the community.
