A total of 88 senior civil servants from IAS, IPS, IFS and Central Services participated in a five-day Inner Engineering Leadership Program organised by DoPT and Isha Foundation at Isha Yoga Center, Coimbatore, focusing on leadership effectiveness, wellbeing, and inner stability.

Eighty-eight senior civil servants from across India recently participated in a five-day Inner Engineering and Leadership Programme organised by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), Government of India, in collaboration with Isha Foundation, at the Isha Yoga Center near Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu

The programme saw participation from officers of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS), Indian Forest Service (IFS), and Group A officers from various Central Services. Designed by renowned yogi Sadhguru, the leadership initiative aimed at enhancing emotional stability, leadership effectiveness, and stress management among senior government officials.

Addressing the officers, Sadhguru emphasised that fear of suffering restricts human potential and highlighted the importance of inner stability in leadership. He noted that when individuals are free from the fear of suffering, they naturally take larger strides in both personal and professional life.

The programme focused on strengthening inter-departmental collaboration, improving decision-making under pressure, and fostering clarity and inner wellbeing. Participants were guided through yogic practices, meditation sessions, leadership discourses, and were initiated into the Shambhavi Mahamudra Kriya, a 21-minute yogic process aimed at enhancing mental balance and overall wellbeing.

Senior officers who attended the programme shared positive feedback. Suhas Devesai, Settlement Commissioner of Maharashtra, described the experience as life-changing, stating that the programme transcends barriers of caste, creed, and religion. Yogesh Choudhury, a 1996-batch IPS officer from the Madhya Pradesh cadre, said the practices would significantly support his spiritual, personal, and professional growth.

Tailored specifically for leaders in public service, the programme aligns inner wellbeing with the responsibilities of governance. Since its inception in 2015, it has emerged as the most attended initiative among the 42 leadership programmes funded by Department of Personnel and Training, reflecting growing interest in holistic leadership development within India’s administrative system
