After Sambhal, Tension in Etah Over Waqf Board Property Dispute
Tensions flared in Etah as two groups clashed over a disputed property near a dargah. Allegations that the land belonged to the Waqf Board led to stone pelting, vandalism, and injuries. Police intervened, arrested two accused, and are verifying land records to resolve the matter. Peace has been restored in the area.
In the wake of the unrest in Sambhal, a fresh controversy emerged in Etah over a small patch of land adjacent to a dargah, which some claim is property owned by the Waqf Board. The clash turned violent with groups clashing and serious properties were damaged, including over a dozen vehicles and a wall.
The incident occurred in Jalesar, where construction on private land owned by Anil Kumar Upadhyay and others was underway. A group led by Rafiq opposed the work, alleging the land belonged to the Waqf Board. This led to stone pelting and vandalism, injuring several individuals.
Senior officials including SSP Shyam Narayan Singh and ASP Rajkumar Singh reached the spot and deployed a heavy police force, including PAC personnel, to restore order. Two key suspects, Rafiq and Farman alias Bunty, have been arrested, and FIRs have been lodged against 16 others. The authorities are going through the land records to settle the issue of ownership, while the investigations continue and ensure that any more attackers are identified through these viral videos. The situation is now in hand.
