BAHRAICH — Communal violence has erupted in Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh, following a clash during Durga Puja celebrations. UP BJP President Bhupendra Singh Chaudhary condemned the incident, calling it "unfortunate." He emphasized the state government's vigilance, noting that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken cognizance of the situation. Chaudhary assured the public that strict action would be taken against those responsible for inciting violence, stating, "No one who aided the culprits will be spared."

Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav blamed the government for the escalation, accusing the ruling BJP of fostering hatred to gain political advantage. "These incidents will continue until the government is changed," Yadav stated, calling for an investigation into the events leading to the violence.

According to police reports, clashes initially erupted during a Durga idol immersion procession in Mahrajganj, Bahraich. Disputes over music played during the procession led to stone-pelting by a group of youths, which soon escalated into a violent brawl. The death of one individual, Ram Gopal Mishra, due to gunfire worsened tensions, leading to protests, arson, and road blockades.

As violence spread, police began evacuating Muslim residents from affected neighborhoods, including areas where homes and shops were reportedly set on fire.
