In Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh, tensions soared as violence erupted following a clash during a Durga idol immersion on October 13. The incident took place in the Mahasi area, leading to violent protests, with shops and hospitals set ablaze. The clashes began when a procession passing through a Muslim neighborhood in Maharajganj sparked a heated argument between two groups, according to police reports.

Bahraich Superintendent of Police (SP) Vrinda Shukla stated, A person from the Hindu community died after bullets were fired on him, leading to a tense situation in the area. As a result, 30 people have been detained, and authorities are actively searching for the main accused, who remains on the run.

To prevent further unrest, security has been tightened, and police have conducted route marches to maintain peace. Several idol immersions were halted, but police say some individuals took advantage of the situation to create disturbances.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken a firm stand, ensuring that peace will be restored in Bahraich. He stressed, Those who spoil the atmosphere will not be spared. Strict action will be taken against rioters and those whose negligence led to the violence." He also reassured the public that the immersion of idols will continue as planned, with administration and police officials overseeing the process to ensure it is completed on time
