Maharashtra Bus Accident Claims Four Lives, Injures Over 40 Passengers

A bus plunged into a 60-70 foot deep ditch in Amravati district of Maharashtra, resulting in the deaths of four people and injuring more than 40 passengers on September 23. The bus, carrying approximately 50-55 travelers, lost control due to the driver's negligence, leading to the tragic incident.

Local residents, along with Chikhaldara police, quickly transported the injured to Amravati Hospital. Authorities expressed concern that the death toll could rise as the situation develops. Rescue operations were initiated promptly, but the increasing number of seriously injured individuals has raised alarm.

An investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing, with emergency teams working diligently at the crash site. This area has witnessed previous accidents; in March, a train carrying passengers from Amravati to Madhya Pradesh derailed nearby.

The bus, traveling along a winding road on the Paratwada Semadoh route, veered off course, falling into the ditch with approximately 40 passengers on board at the time. Police and local officials responded swiftly to the scene to rescue those trapped inside. Among the injured, around 25 passengers sustained injuries.

This accident adds to a series of recent tragedies in the state, with six fatalities reported in separate incidents across Maharashtra this year. Among the deceased were a minor and two women, identified as 65-year-old Indu Samadhan Gontre and 30-year-old Lalita Chimote. In July, another private travel bus met with an accident near Melghat, underlining ongoing safety concerns in the region.
