CNG Price Hike of ₹2 in Mumbai, Noida, Gurugram: Delhi Rates Remain the Same – Latest Developments on Gas Prices

CNG prices have increased by ₹2 per kg in Mumbai, Noida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad, and Gurugram, while Delhi's rates remain unchanged.

The Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) price for key cities such as Mumbai, Noida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad, and Gurugram has increased by ₹2 per kg. While the price saw an increase in some parts, Delhi has remained unchanged at ₹75.09 per kg.

What's the New CNG Price?

The new rates are as follows from 23 November, reflecting the price hike.

Mumbai: ₹77 per kg
Noida, Greater Noida, and Ghaziabad: ₹81.70 per kg
Gurugram: ₹82.12 per kg

Two rounds of cuts in the supply of regulated or Administered Price Mechanism (APM) gas compelled firms to buy costlier gas; it prompted this price hike.
Why Did CNG Prices Hike?

Higher input gas cost is said to be the reason for the increased price as gas retailers, such as Mahanagar Gas Ltd in Mumbai and Indraprastha Gas Ltd in Delhi, now incur higher prices for the fuel. Industry insiders explain that these changes are necessitated by supply cuts, which also affected other natural gas sources and are therefore costly.

This is coming at a time when the Delhi assembly elections are just round the corner, for which CNG prices are likely to remain stable till the election period is over, according to industry sources.

Consequences of the CNG Price Increase

The increase in price will directly affect the daily fuel expenses of residents and commuters in cities like Mumbai, Noida, and Gurugram. The hike is likely to cause concern among users because, being rather less harmful to the environment, CNG is the preferred choice for public and private transportation.

Though CNG rates in Delhi remain unchanged for now, future revisions are expected post-election. The price adjustments in Noida, Greater Noida, and Gurugram reflect the varying local taxes such as VAT, contributing to the price differences across regions.

What’s Next?

This fluctuating market is bound to lead Delhiites to feel a momentary respite in the wake of stable CNG prices. According to experts, though, the same may not be the case as the gas supply situation does not see any improvement.
