Congress Sweeps Karnataka By-Polls, Wins All Three Assembly Seats

In a resounding victory, Congress wins all three assembly by-poll seats in Karnataka. Even as the party faces challenges in other states like Maharashtra, it has thrown its colours to the wind in Karnataka with a sweeping victory over major rivals BJP and JD(S) in Shiggaon, Sandur, and Channapatna.

 Key Wins in Karnataka

In the Shiggaon assembly by-poll, Congress candidate defeated Bharath Bommai, son of former Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai. This high-profile contest ended with a decisive victory for Congress, sending a strong message to the BJP. In Sandur, Congress candidate Annapoorna secured a victory over BJP’s Bangara Hanumantha, further consolidating the party’s dominance in the state.

The political fight in Channapatna seat was keenly witnessed, where CP Yogeshwara of Congress defeated JD(S) candidate Nikhil Kumaraswamy, son of JD(S) leader and former Karnataka CM HD Kumaraswamy. This appears to be a severe blow to JD(S) while announcing the revival of the Congress in the state.

DK Shivakumar's Comment on Emerging Victory

Karnataka Deputy CM DK Shivakumar described the by-poll results as the people's clear message. Reflecting on the Shiggaon outcome, he said, “I don’t call it a defeat of Bharath Bommai, but it’s a message from the people for what his father did.” Shivakumar emphasized that development and guarantees are what resonate with voters, urging political rivals to focus on work instead of baseless allegations. He added, “This is just the beginning; we’ll return to power in 2028.”

By-Poll Overview

The by-poll was held in 15 states covering 48 assembly seats and two Lok Sabha constituencies. Congress's clean sweep in Karnataka signals strengthening processes for the party in the state while showcasing the capability to counter strong rivals like BJP and JD(S).

This success will boost the morale of Congress but will also set the stage for its preparations for the 2028 Karnataka Assembly elections.
