Constitution Day 2024: PM Modi Declares Constitution Fully Implemented in J&K as UT Celebrates Constitution Day for the First Time
This year, on the Constitution Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi proclaimed that the Indian Constitution is finally implemented fully in Jammu and Kashmir, which is an essential milestone for the Union Territory.
Constitution Day 2024: PM Modi Marks J&K's Full Integration
It was the maiden celebration of Constitution Day in Jammu and Kashmir-a testament to the integration and assimilation with the balance of India following the abrogation of Article 370 of the constitution in 2019. Addressing a special function in the Supreme Court to mark the 75th anniversary of the Constitution, Modi hailed the document as a living instrument that has stood the test of time and continued to guide the nation's progress.
The Prime Minister clarified that social justice is the motto of the Constitution and clarified that the truly developed India is where every citizen would be able to enjoy the dignity of life. Modi pointed out that, being aware of the changing needs of a developing nation, India's founders created not static law but a "living, continuously flowing stream" in the form of a Constitution adapting to the changing needs of the people.
Reflecting on the last decade, Modi pointed to the transformative changes undertaken over that period, especially in terms of socio-economic development. In a matter of 10 years, four crore homeless people have been housed; over 10 crore women have been given free LPG connections, and 12 crore households now have access to tap water, further improving living conditions across the country.
That besides, Modi said that the Indian legal foundation is based on human values. To this end, he mentioned some very recent legal reforms, like Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, calling for 33% reservation of women in the Parliament and state legislatures, which is the most significant step toward women's empowerment within India's framework of democracy.
