Delhi Metro Introduces Multiple Journey QR Ticket, Offering Discounts and Digital Convenience
New Delhi, India – The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has launched a new digital ticketing initiative that allows passengers to travel without the need for a physical metro smart card. The new Multiple Journey QR Ticket (MJQRT) offers commuters the same benefits as the smart card, including discounts, and can be conveniently accessed via mobile phones.
Revolutionary Digital Ticketing
The MJQRT, unveiled by DMRC Managing Director Dr. Vikas Kumar, is designed to enhance the ease of booking for metro passengers. The QR-based system eliminates the need for daily ticket purchases and functions similarly to a digital smart card. Commuters can use the QR code for multiple journeys, with the ability to recharge it when needed, just like a regular smart card.
From September 13, passengers can begin using this service by registering on DMRC’s "Delhi Sarathi (Momentum 2.0)" app. The ticket can be purchased, and users can manage payments, recharge, and track fare information directly through the app.
How It Works
To avail the MJQRT, users need to register on the Delhi Sarathi app with an initial amount of ₹150, with no security deposit required. Commuters can top up their balance in multiples of ₹50 using various digital payment methods, including UPI, credit, and debit cards. The maximum balance allowed is ₹3,000, while a minimum of ₹60 is required for travel.
Discounts and Environmental Benefits
One of the key benefits of the MJQRT is the discounts offered. Passengers traveling during peak hours (8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.) receive a 10% discount, while off-peak travelers enjoy a 20% discount. Similar to the physical smart card, this digital version provides fare savings and reduces the hassle of carrying a physical card.
Additionally, if a mobile phone is lost, the balance on the QR ticket remains secure and can be transferred to another device, ensuring the commuter's funds are protected.
Dr. Vikas Kumar expressed his excitement about the initiative, stating, “We are delighted to introduce the Multiple Journey QR Ticket under our ‘Ease of Booking’ initiative. MJQRT makes travel easier with a single QR code, offering both convenience and environmental benefits.”
This new feature is set to revolutionize how commuters travel, offering an efficient and eco-friendly alternative to traditional metro smart cards.
