The accident is thought to have been caused by the sulphur and potassium, seen in fireworks, which were transported in the overhead space above the seats. Inmates in the coach told these hazardous materials, reportedly destined for sale, were stored with iron tools in the overhead compartment. The fire may have been sparked by a combination of the flammable sulphur and potassium compounds and the hot iron tools in the overhead compartment.
Further investigations will reveal how hazardous materials like sulfur and potassium were carried aboard and if proper safety checks were conducted before the train left the station. The incident does raise questions over the train safety protocols and the risk involved with flammable articles being carried on public transport.
