Fire Erupts in Ghaziabad Indirapuram Electronic Goods Warehouse: Eight Rescued After Toxic Smoke Fills Building, Lack of Fire Safety Equipment Exposed
A fire broke out in the basement of a two-story building in Niti Khand 1, Indirapuram, on Sunday evening. The fire started in a warehouse storing electronic goods, causing heavy smoke to fill the building. The smoke quickly spread to the four flats located on the first and second floors of the building.
With only one exit route available, eight people, including two children, were trapped in the smoke-filled flats. The fire department was alerted, and the firefighters promptly arrived at the scene, safely rescuing all the trapped residents. It took the firefighters two hours of intense effort to bring the fire under control. Fortunately, there were no casualties reported.
Fire in Electronic Goods Warehouse
The two-story building in Niti Khand houses four residential flats, with the warehouse located in the basement. Around 6 PM, residents noticed smoke coming from the basement, and the fire quickly spread, filling the entire building with smoke. The fire department was immediately notified.
Some Residents Managed to Evacuate, Others Trapped
While most of the building's residents were able to evacuate using the stairs, eight individuals were trapped inside their flats due to the dense smoke. The fire department identified the trapped residents as Surya (25), Ashika (23), Nitisha (38), Arna (10), Aaradhya (6), Gargi (20), Isha (20), and Anushka (21).
Firefighters Safely Rescue Trapped Residents
The Chief Fire Officer, Rahul Pal, and his team arrived at the scene and safely rescued all the trapped residents. Two fire engines were deployed to extinguish the fire. The presence of electronic goods in the basement caused the smoke to become toxic, making the rescue operation more challenging. Due to the narrow basement entrance, firefighters faced difficulties controlling the blaze, but with the help of smoke exhaust fans, the toxic fumes were cleared, and the fire was put out within two hours.
Lack of Fire Safety Equipment in the Building
Chief Fire Officer Rahul Pal pointed out that the building lacked proper fire safety equipment. There were no fire extinguishers or emergency exits apart from the stairs. It is suspected that the fire was caused by a short circuit. Pal noted that if the building had been equipped with fire safety measures, the situation could have been contained more swiftly.
All electronic goods stored in the basement were destroyed in the fire. The authorities are now investigating the exact cause of the fire and working to ensure proper safety measures are implemented in similar buildings in the area.
