KURNOOL, India (AP) — The annual Mitti Vinayaka festival in Mimiganur, Kurnool district, has become a major attraction this year with an extraordinary display: a Ganesha idol adorned with ₹54 lakh ($65,000) in currency notes.

As part of the fourth annual festival celebrations, the Shakti Vinayaka Mandali has decorated the Ganesha idol with an array of fresh banknotes, including ₹1, ₹5, ₹10, ₹20, ₹50, ₹100, ₹200, and ₹500 denominations. The display, which features a substantial amount of currency, has drawn significant attention from local residents and visitors alike.

Security measures have been heightened around the area, with CCTV cameras monitoring the idol and its surroundings to safeguard the substantial cash display. The local Shakti Youth Club has set up a currency exchange booth-like structure around the idol to manage and protect the money.

The unique decoration has attracted thousands of devotees from surrounding villages, with the idol becoming a focal point of admiration and reverence. The cost of creating this grand display, which includes a meticulous arrangement of new currency notes, has been reported to be ₹54 lakh.

The festival, which is celebrated with great enthusiasm in Telugu-speaking regions, has seen a vibrant and secure environment due to the significant financial and logistical effort involved. For more spiritual news and updates, click here.
