A significant disturbance erupted on National Highway 58 as Kawad Yatra pilgrims protested after a key route was obstructed and a theft occurred at a local camp.
The incident began when a thief entered a camp, stealing money from a Kawad. During the theft, the Kawad was damaged, leading to heightened tensions among the pilgrims. The situation escalated as the pilgrims, angered by the theft and damage, apprehended and assaulted the thief at the scene.
Police intervened, rescuing the thief from the angry crowd and taking him into custody. The pilgrims, dissatisfied with the police response, blocked the highway and demanded the presence of higher authorities.
Superintendent of Police (City) Ayush Vikram Singh commented on the incident, emphasizing ongoing efforts to resolve the situation and restore order. The highway remains blocked as the standoff continues, disrupting traffic and causing significant inconvenience for travelers.
