Fire Frenzy on Intercity Express: Pantry Car Blaze Sparks Panic, Passengers Jump from Moving Train!
Jhansi, India – On Friday, an incident turned shocking when the pantry car of the Udaipur-Khajuraho Intercity Express caught fire near Mauranipur railway station in Uttar Pradesh. The panic caused due to the intake of thick smoke filled the train; some terror-stricken passengers leaped from the moving train in order to escape the fumes.
Panic as Fire Breaks Out
The fire broke out in the pantry car of Intercity Express while it was on its journey from Maboha to Jhansi. Thick smoke soon spread to other coaches prompting immediate alarm among passengers. The train's locomotive pilot acted in swift fashion bringing the train to a halt near Mauranipur station, alerted local railway officials and on their own, Railway staff quickly arrived on the scene helping passengers off safely while tackling flames.
The railway officials and emergency response team worked hard to extinguish the flames before it could spread uncontrollably. Videos of the accident have also surfaced: in those videos, smoke was seen billowing out from air-conditioned coaches and railway staff carrying bedding and other essentials items from the coaches to safety. Passengers have also been seen gathering on the platform, visibly shaken but otherwise unscathed, in the videos. However, the railway staff and crew members on board the train ensured that the passengers were safely evacuated from it upon its stoppage.
Investigation On
The railway officials have begun an investigation into what caused the fire in the pantry car. The incident has also brought to question safety procedures related to the trains, especially within the pantry car where there is cooking equipment and electrical appliances. The prompt response of the staff on the train has ensured that the disaster that could have been of much larger proportions did not occur since the fire broke out just before spreading over to the other coaches.
The railway authorities acted promptly so that the lives of passengers were saved. There was no serious casualty in this accident. The pantry car accident clearly shows that high safety measures must be taken in pantry cars so that incidents like this do not happen in the future.
