Jharkhand Assembly Election Results 2024: BJP leads in early trends, NDA gains early advantage
As the counting of votes for the Jharkhand Assembly Elections 2024 continues, preliminary trends indicate that the BJP-led NDA is in a strong head-start. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its ally AJSU Party are ahead on 24 seats, while its main opponent Congress-JMM-led INDI Alliance lags behind on 10 seats. These results are important as they represent the first voice of electorates from the 81 constituencies of Jharkhand.
With a record turnout of 67.74%, as the elections were held in two phases on November 13 and 20, this shows to be the first since the formation of the state back in the year 2000 and signifies very high voter engagement and interest in election results. The first phase comprised voting in 43 constituencies, while the second phase comprised voting in 38 constituencies.
In this election, the BJP contested 68 seats, while the AJSU Party contested in 10 constituencies. In contrast, the Congress-JMM-led INDI Alliance comprises Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), which contests 43 seats, Congress 30, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) 6, and the CPI(ML) 4.
The bright start of the NDA in the state of Jharkhand underlines continued influence of BJP in the state despite stiff opposition from the alliance. Though the INDI Alliance led by Congress and JMM is behind now, it's too early to predict a final result as counting progresses throughout the day.
Voter turnout was excellent in the state and has been indicated as a sign of an electorate that will be very competitive. Increased voter participation may be a sign of wanting change or as an expression of dissatisfaction with the ruling government's policies. The total number of seats is 81, thus making the majority mark 41 for both alliances to form the subsequent government.
All eyes are glued to the crucible battle for power in Jharkhand as counting continues. The outcome of the early trends may hold the key to shaping up the final seat distribution of who will be governed in Jharkhand. With the BJP-led NDA and Congress-JMM-led INDI Alliance neck-and-neck, this was indeed a fierce battle to its last.
