Kanpur (Uttar Pradesh): A shocking incident from Kanpur has sparked outrage after a video showing a police officer brutally assaulting a student went viral on social media. The officer, identified as Amit Vikram Tripathi, in-charge of the Kidwai Nagar outpost, has been suspended following public backlash.

The viral clip, reportedly filmed at the outpost, shows Tripathi abusing, slapping, and kicking a student while threatening to “beat him unconscious.” In the footage, the student can be heard pleading, “How can you drag me? What is my fault?” — but the officer continues to hit him as bystanders record the incident.

What Happened

According to police sources, the incident occurred on October 5 when the student was stopped by Tripathi for allegedly riding his motorcycle at high speed. The officer seized the vehicle and began questioning the students. When they objected, Tripathi and another constable allegedly started abusing and manhandling them.

Despite the students admitting their mistake, the officer continued to assault them. During the confrontation, Tripathi is heard saying, “I am not afraid of anyone.”

After the video surfaced online, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) confirmed that the department had taken cognisance of the incident. The officer in question was immediately suspended, and the case has been handed over to ACP Babu Purwa for a detailed investigation.

Authorities have assured that strict disciplinary action will follow based on the findings of the probe.
