Controversial Leader Karun Kaura Joins BJP, Preneet Kaur Calls Him a Strong Grassroots Voice

Controversial leader Karun Kaura has joined the BJP, earning praise from Preneet Kaur for his grassroots influence. Despite facing a 2017 liquor scam case, Kaura’s entry is seen as a key move in the BJP’s strategy to expand its rural base in Punjab.

Chandigarh: Controversial leader Karun Kaura has officially joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the presence of senior party leaders, marking another significant addition to the party’s Punjab cadre ahead of the next electoral cycle.

Welcoming Kaura into the party, former Union Minister Preneet Kaur said the BJP has always been a people’s party, deeply connected to the grassroots. She noted that Kaura’s strong influence in rural Punjab—particularly due to his role as President of the Sarpanch Union—will further strengthen the BJP’s organizational base in the state.

“The BJP is truly a party of the people. Karun Kaura’s grassroots presence and leadership will give our state unit new energy and strength,” said Preneet Kaur.

Expressing gratitude toward the party leadership, Karun Kaura said he was motivated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s pro-people governance and development-oriented policies.

“I am inspired by the BJP’s ideology and Prime Minister Modi’s vision for a new India. I will sincerely fulfill every responsibility entrusted to me,” Kaura said after formally joining the party.

Several other local leaders also joined the BJP alongside him, including Jaswant Singh (Sarpanch of Rauni), Bhagwant Singh, Hitesh Kaura, Sunder Singh, Gursher Singh, Narinder Singh, Joginder Singh, and Gurmail Singh.

2017 Liquor Scam Case Still Haunts Karun Kaura

Despite his political resurgence, Karun Kaura’s name remains linked to a 2017 cheating case registered by the Panchkula Police. According to the FIR filed at Kalka Police Station, the directors and owners of Leela Bio Wine and Beer Private Limited—including Kaura—were accused of duping Kalka-based liquor merchants of ₹85 lakh.

The complaint, filed by Deepak Aggarwal and Saurabh Kumar, named Amit Leela, Karun Kaura, Ritu, Amarnath Srinivassa (owner of Bio Whisky), and Praveen Bansal (manager of Leela Bio Wine and Beer Pvt. Ltd.) as the primary accused.

While Kaura has consistently denied wrongdoing, the case continues to cast a shadow over his political career. However, his entry into the BJP is seen by many as a move to rebuild his image and reestablish his foothold in Punjab politics.

Karun Kaura’s Entry Adds New Dimension to BJP’s Punjab Strategy

Political observers suggest that Karun Kaura’s induction reflects the BJP’s strategy to expand its base in Punjab’s rural and semi-urban belts, leveraging local leadership with grassroots connections. Despite lingering controversies, party insiders believe Kaura’s organizational skills and influence among village-level representatives could help strengthen the BJP’s rural network.

With Punjab’s political landscape rapidly evolving, Karun Kaura’s BJP membership could prove to be a key factor in upcoming regional realignments—especially as the party eyes deeper inroads beyond its traditional strongholds.
