Tragic Accident in Kerala: Five MBBS students were killed last night when a car crashed into a bus, police said today. The car collided with the bus. All five people inside the car were killed. Several others inside the bus sustained injuries. Passersby helped by rushing the injured to the hospital, while the police arrived at the scene, took possession of the bodies, and sent them for postmortem. Extracting the bodies from the mangled car proved to be a difficult task, as the impact of the crash had crushed the vehicle. To retrieve the bodies, the police had to cut through the car's roof.
The victims were first year MBBS students at the TD Medical College in Alappuzha. According to media reports, the accident took place near Kalakode in Alappuzha, when a car collided with a KSRTC bus. The police cannot yet ascertain the cause for the accident and are yet to hear from the survivors.
The victims have been identified as Devanandan from Lakshadweep, Muhammad Ibrahim, Ayush Shaji, Srideep Valsan, and Mohammad Jabbar. Police suspect that the accident might have been caused by slippery road conditions due to heavy rainfall from the Fengl storm, which has caused several roads in Kerala to become slick.
Police reached the scene after receiving a report of the accident. When they arrived, they found that the car was badly smashed and used a cutter to pull out the bodies. Five of the people in the car were pronounced dead on arrival, and the two injured were taken to the hospital for treatment. Passengers in the bus also suffered injuries but were treated and sent home.
