Kolkata: Suspicious Bag Found at RG Kar Medical College Sparks Panic, Investigation Underway

Following the alert, a bomb squad has been called, though they have yet to arrive at the scene.

Kolkata, India – A suspicious, unattended bag found at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital has caused widespread panic in the area. The bag was discovered near the protest site where junior doctors have been demonstrating, raising security concerns at the hospital. Following the alert, a bomb squad has been called, though they have yet to arrive at the scene.

This incident comes shortly after the medical college made headlines following the alleged rape and murder of a junior doctor. The hospital has been the center of ongoing protests since the tragedy occurred.

Ongoing Investigations Into Financial Irregularities

In addition to the recent security scare, former principal of RG Kar Medical College, Dr. Sandeep Ghosh, is currently under investigation by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for alleged financial irregularities. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had previously interrogated Dr. Ghosh regarding financial misconduct and had conducted raids at his residence and four other locations. Among those raided was the home of Dr. Debashish Som, a demonstrator in forensic medicine and toxicology. The ED continues to investigate these financial irregularities.

Protests Continue Following Junior Doctor’s Death

The hospital has been in the spotlight since the discovery of a junior doctor’s body in the seminar hall on August 9. The doctor’s body was found unclothed and with signs of heavy bleeding, leading to the arrest of Sanjay Roy. Junior doctors have been on strike for over a month, demanding justice for their colleague.

The combination of the ongoing protest, security concerns, and financial investigations has placed RG Kar Medical College under intense scrutiny as investigations continue.
