Maharashtra politics: Fadnavis and Shinde to Meet Amit Shah as Maharashtra's Political Crisis Deepens

Maharashtra politics: Top leaders of the Mahayuti alliance will meet BJP's Amit Shah in Delhi tomorrow to decide on Maharashtra's next chief minister amid ongoing political uncertainty.

New Delhi/Mumbai: Political uncertainty over who is likely to become the Maharashtra chief minister is to end tomorrow with three top leaders from Mahayuti alliance, who comprise of BJP's Devendra Fadnavis, NCP's Ajit Pawar and Shiv Sena's Eknath Shinde, scheduled to meet the union Home Minister Amit Shah in the National Capital.

Maharashtra CM Showdown, Fadnavis, Pawar, Shinde Meet Shah

The gathering is an attempt to answer the leadership issue after the Mahayuti alliance's historic victory in the recently held Maharashtra assembly elections, where they bagged 235 out of the 288 seats, while BJP emerged victorious in 132 seats. Sources close to the matter stated that in advance of the election, BJP and Shiv Sena had agreed that the chief minister would still be Eknath Shinde, as per seat-sharing. Such an understanding had been struck before the election in order not to have the coalition row in the middle of electioneering.

However, now that the alliance has won, internal competition for the post of CM has increased, as the supporters of each leader back their respective candidates. A meeting with Amit Shah will decide how the leadership is distributed because both Fadnavis and Pawar are claiming the post, which adds complexity to the decision-making process. The outcome of this meeting is likely to shape Maharashtra politics in the coming weeks.
