Nirbhaya" Found Alive: Motihari’s Shocking Twist in Gang Rape Case

In June, a body found in the Dhanouti River was identified by her parents as their daughter, leading to widespread protests and candlelight marches in Motihari.

MOTIHARI, Bihar (July 24) — In a shocking turn of events, the young woman known as "Nirbhaya," presumed dead and for whom last rites were performed by her grieving parents, has been found alive.

In June, a body found in the Dhanouti River was identified by her parents as their daughter, leading to widespread protests and candlelight marches in Motihari. The community was in an uproar over her alleged gang rape and murder. Guddu, a suspect arrested by the police, had confessed to the crime, claiming he and others threw Nirbhaya into the river, believing she was dead.

However, the case took a dramatic twist when Nirbhaya was discovered living in the home of Chuman Sahni in Kamti Bazar village under Turkauliya police station. Villagers revealed that Sahni’s wife had taken Nirbhaya in as her sister and had even planned to marry her off. Despite numerous visitors meeting Nirbhaya daily, no one informed the police about her survival.

Nirbhaya eventually escaped from Sahni's wife’s house upon learning about the marriage plans and sought refuge with a local named Sanjay Sahni, who then helped her reach the police with the assistance of a ward councilor.

This unexpected development has raised several questions: How did Nirbhaya end up in Kamti Bazar village? Who were the people visiting her, and why didn't they report her to the police? Authorities are now investigating these new angles in the case.

Meanwhile, the community, once again in shock, is awaiting further answers and the next steps in this baffling case.
