NSG Black Cat Commandos to Be Withdrawn from VIP Security of Yogi and 8 Other Leaders: CRPF Takes Over

In a significant decision, the government has announced that NSG Black Cat commandos will be withdrawn from the security of nine high-profile VIPs, including Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Starting next month, the responsibility for their security will be handed over to the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).

Government Shifts VIP Security to CRPF

Currently, nine key leaders enjoy Z-plus category security with NSG commandos. These leaders include Yogi Adityanath, former UP Chief Minister Mayawati, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, senior BJP leader LK Advani, Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, former Chhattisgarh CM Raman Singh, DPAP leader Ghulam Nabi Azad, National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah, and Andhra Pradesh CM N Chandrababu Naidu. Their security will now be managed by the CRPF’s VIP protection unit.

CRPF to Handle New Security Role

To handle the increased demand for VIP protection, a new CRPF battalion has been authorized. This battalion previously handled the security of Parliament but was reassigned after a security breach. The Ministry of Home Affairs has now tasked this unit with VIP security duties, further enhancing CRPF’s role in high-level security operations.

ASL Protocol for Yogi Adityanath and Rajnath Singh

Additionally, Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh will receive the CRPF’s Advanced Security Liaison (ASL) protocol. This protocol includes pre-visit security checks of locations the VIPs will visit, ensuring maximum safety. The CRPF already provides ASL protocol for five other high-profile figures, including Home Minister Amit Shah and former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

A Strategic Move in VIP Security

The shift in responsibility from NSG to CRPF marks a strategic move, consolidating security resources and entrusting a well-established force with a critical task. As the transition unfolds, the CRPF is expected to streamline operations and ensure seamless protection for these prominent leaders.

This decision highlights the government's ongoing efforts to strengthen and optimize the security apparatus for VIPs in India.
