Ongoing Jackal Attacks in Muzaffarpur Leave Over 24 Injured; Forest Department Launches Rescue Operation
MUZAFFARPUR, Bihar — In a growing concern for the residents of Muzaffarpur's Kurhani and Mushahari blocks, a series of jackal attacks has left more than two dozen people injured. The ongoing incidents have caused widespread fear in the Susta Panchayat, with many villagers afraid to leave their homes.
Increasing Fear Among Locals
In the past five days, jackals have attacked several residents, causing severe injuries. According to the Forest Department, over a dozen people have been wounded in these attacks. The rising number of victims has caused panic, and those who venture outside now carry sticks for protection.
Forest Department's Rescue Operation
The Forest Department has launched a rescue mission to capture the jackals responsible for the attacks. Traps have been set up in forested areas and dense vegetation near the villages, but despite the team's efforts, no jackals have been caught so far. Dr. Rajiv Ranjan, an official with the Forest Department’s veterinary division, stated that traps have been placed wherever jackal footprints or hiding spots have been found, and search operations are ongoing.
Public Warning Issued
To ensure public safety, the Forest Department has been using microphones to broadcast warnings across the villages, advising residents to avoid venturing outside after dark, especially near forested or bushy areas. Villagers are heeding these warnings and taking extra precautions.
Atmosphere of Fear
The continuous jackal attacks have created an atmosphere of fear, particularly among children, the elderly, and women. Many villagers have resorted to arming themselves with sticks and other makeshift weapons to guard their homes.
As the Forest Department continues its rescue efforts, the situation remains tense, with locals hoping for a swift resolution to the growing threat.
