Aftermath of the horrific Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives, the J-K government has announced ₹10 lakh compensation for each victim’s family. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah condemned the act and assured justice, medical care, and support to the injured.

Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir — April 23, 2025: In the wake of the tragic terror attack that shook the serene valley of Pahalgam, the Jammu and Kashmir government has announced financial assistance to support the grieving families and injured victims. The attack, which took place on Tuesday, claimed the lives of at least 26 individuals, including tourists and two foreign nationals, and left several others wounded.

₹10 Lakh Ex-Gratia for the Deceased, ₹2 Lakh for Seriously Injured

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, visibly shaken by the brutality of the attack, expressed deep sorrow and announced a compensation package for the victims. “This despicable act of terror has no place in our society,” he said in a post on X (formerly Twitter). “We mourn the precious lives lost. The government stands firmly with the families in this dark hour.”

Each family of the deceased will receive an ex-gratia amount of ₹10 lakh, the CM confirmed. Those who sustained serious injuries in the attack will be granted ₹2 lakh, while individuals with minor injuries will receive ₹1 lakh.

While acknowledging that no amount can fill the void left by a loved one’s absence, Mr. Abdullah emphasized that this gesture is a symbol of solidarity and support from the government.

Kashmir Pahalgam Terror Attack at a Popular Tourist Site Leaves India in Shock

The attack took place at Baisaran meadow, often dubbed “mini Switzerland,” a prime tourist location nestled near Pahalgam in south Kashmir. Gunmen opened fire indiscriminately, using sniper-like tactics according to reports by News18, making escape and rescue incredibly difficult.

Among the dead were tourists from UAE and Nepal, as well as two local residents. The victims included people from diverse backgrounds—an IT professional, a Navy officer, an accountant, and others who had come to enjoy Kashmir’s breathtaking beauty.

Government Ensures Dignified Repatriation & Medical Support

The Chief Minister also stated that all arrangements have been made to transport the victims’ mortal remains back to their hometowns with dignity.

Those injured are being treated in state-run hospitals with “the best medical care available,” according to an official spokesperson. “We are doing everything we can to provide comfort and care to the survivors and their families.”

“Terror Will Never Break Us,” Says CM

Reiterating a strong stance against terrorism, Omar Abdullah assured the public that justice will be pursued relentlessly. “Terror will never break our resolve. We will not rest until those behind this barbarity are brought to justice,” he declared.

Security agencies have tightened surveillance across tourist hotspots and sensitive zones in the valley, and investigations are underway to identify the perpetrators. Initial intelligence reports suggest involvement of Pakistan-based terrorist groups, but authorities are yet to officially confirm any group’s role.

A Community United in Grief

The incident has triggered a wave of mourning across the country, with political leaders, citizens, and social media users expressing outrage and sympathy.

“We will continue to fight the ideology of hate with unity and strength,” said a senior official from the Home Ministry.

This tragedy, once again, casts a grim shadow over Kashmir’s tourism-driven revival efforts. Yet, the spirit of the people and the resolve of the authorities offer hope that peace can still be reclaimed.
