Bahraich Violence: Sarfaraz’s Sister Urges Yogi Government for Fair Investigation

The district of Bahraich in Uttar Pradesh witnessed unrest during a Durga idol immersion on October 13, when a violent clash broke out, leading to the fatal shooting of a young man named Ramgopal Mishra. His death escalated tensions, resulting in widespread arson and vandalism. Thousands took to the streets armed with sticks, further intensifying the chaos. Despite efforts by the police, PAC, and RAF, the violence spilled over into the next day, October 14. The situation was only brought under control after STF Chief personally led the charge against the rioters.

As the dust settled, the police focused their efforts on tracking down Ramgopal’s killers. On October 17, five suspects were arrested, including Sarfaraz and Talim, both of whom were injured during an encounter. Sarfaraz is accused of being the one who fired the shot that killed Ramgopal. Post-mortem reports confirmed that the cause of Ramgopal’s death was a gunshot wound.

The rooftop from which the fatal shot was fired belongs to Abdul Hamid, and Sarfaraz, his son, is now at the center of the investigation. Sarfaraz’s sister, Rukhsar, however, has claimed that while her brother did fire the gun, it was in self-defense. She explained that an aggressive mob had gathered outside their home, and the young man on the roof (Ramgopal) was attempting to enter their courtyard. In a moment of panic, the shot was fired, leading to the tragic outcome.

Rukhsar also questioned the arrest of her husband Osama and brother-in-law Shahid, asserting that they were not even present at the scene during the incident. She called for a thorough and fair investigation, requesting that the Yogi government look into their side of the story as well. According to her, the firing came from both sides, and the situation was far from one-sided.

Rukhsar remains hopeful that justice will prevail, trusting the Yogi government to make the right decision after a full investigation.
