Serial Killer Arrested in Gujarat After 2000 CCTV Footages Reveal Train Murders

Beginning from what was going to become an ordinary investigating procedure to probe into rape and cold blooded killing of an 19-years-old, a woman unearthed in detail multiple cruel murders through Jat.

In a spine-chilling case, the Gujarat Police have recently arrested Rahul Karamveer Jat, who is a serial killer committing gruesome murders on trains in multiple states. The 30-year-old man from Haryana was arrested on November 24 at Vapi railway station in Gujarat after a detailed investigation of six states. Beginning from what was going to become an ordinary investigating procedure to probe into rape and cold blooded killing of an 19-years-old, a woman unearthed in detail multiple cruel murders through Jat.

The first breakthrough came after the rape and murder of a 19-year-old woman near Udwada railway station in Valsad district on November 14. Investigators quickly identified the suspect after scanning over 2000 CCTV cameras installed at railway stations across Gujarat and nearby states. The accused, identified from footage showing him at the station wearing the same clothes as the murderer, was soon linked to several other murders across India.

How Did Gujarat Police Trace the Serial Killer?

It was in this very train when Gujarat Police's mass operation in coordination with the forces from Maharashtra, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Odisha, and Andhra Pradesh finally trapped Jat and brought him before law, where a distinct limp noticed in CCTV footage led to his identification. Ironically, after all these gruesome killings, the CCTV cameras spotted him at Vapi railway station, gorging food, who was totally oblivious of what he was committing.

Jat had been murdering people in trains for several months. Along with the case of recent rape and murder from Gujarat, he admitted killing a male passenger on Bengaluru-Murdeshwar over a dispute over a cigarette in October and robbing and killing a 63-year-old passenger on the Katihar Express in West Bengal on November 19. Often, his targets were individual passengers, and preferred ones, were those seated in handicapped coaches or women coaches.

What Had Led to the Serial Killer's Arrest?

It was through the detailed analysis of CCTV footage that the police were able to arrest the serial killer, who was scrutinized over 2000 cameras spread across several districts. The police were then able to track his movement into another state and confirm the same person had committed multiple murders in India. The probe revealed that Jat had targeted isolated passengers and utilized his physical impairment to disappear from the scene after committing the crime.
