Supreme Court Stays High Court Order in 69,000 Teacher Recruitment Case

The CJI also instructed all parties involved to submit written arguments, stating that the court will conduct a final hearing on the matter.

The Supreme Court on Monday heard a petition related to the Uttar Pradesh 69,000 teacher recruitment case and issued a stay on the Allahabad High Court's order. Chief Justice of India (CJI) stated that the High Court’s ruling will remain suspended for now, with the next hearing scheduled for September 25. The CJI also instructed all parties involved to submit written arguments, stating that the court will conduct a final hearing on the matter.

The Supreme Court has asked the state government and all parties to submit their written submissions. The court noted that time is needed to thoroughly review the High Court’s decision. In its ruling, the Allahabad High Court had canceled the selection lists from June 2020 and January 2022, directing the Uttar Pradesh government to issue a new selection list within three months based on the 2019 assistant teacher recruitment exam.

The High Court had also stated that if a reserved category candidate scores equivalent to the general category merit, their selection should be considered under the general category. This ruling caused significant concerns among many teachers already employed in the state, who feared losing their jobs due to the court's decision.
