Bahraich Violence: PWD Issues Notices for Demolition of Main Accused Abdul Hamid’s House and 23 Others

In connection with the Bahraich violence that occurred on October 13-14, the Public Works Department (PWD) has issued demolition notices to the main accused, Abdul Hamid, and 23 others. These notices were posted on their homes, citing encroachments on government land. The notices state that these houses were illegally built within 60 feet of the center of a rural district road without proper approval from the authorities.

According to the PWD’s notice, the Kundasar Mahsi Nanpara road is classified as a major district road, and as per departmental standards, no construction is allowed within 60 feet of the center point of such roads in rural areas without permission. The notice specifies that the property owners must provide valid documentation proving that their constructions were authorized by the District Magistrate of Bahraich or other relevant authorities. If they fail to provide the necessary documents, they must demolish the illegal structures within three days.

The PWD further warned that if the illegal constructions are not voluntarily removed within the given timeframe, the structures will be demolished with the assistance of the police and local administration. The expenses incurred for the demolition process will be recovered from the property owners.

Violence During Immersion Procession

The violence in Bahraich erupted on October 13-14 during an immersion procession, leading to chaos and several arrests. On Friday, the police presented five accused—Abdul Hamid, Rinku alias Sarfaraz, Faheem, Talim, and Afzal—before CJM Pratibha Chaudhary at her residence in the Judges' Colony. The court has remanded the accused to judicial custody for 14 days.

The demolition notice is part of ongoing legal actions against those involved in the violence, adding further pressure on the accused. Authorities are ensuring that all encroachments on government land are cleared, as per legal requirements, in an effort to maintain law and order in the region.
